IACS’ Investment in People Recognised in IGEM Awards

IGEM, The Institute of Gas Engineers and Managers, has recognised IACS Ltd in its annual Gas Industry Awards.

The shortlist…

IACS Ltd, the leading inspection, engineering and testing consultancy specialising in pipeline construction, has been shortlisted within the ‘Investment in People’ category. This award acknowledges the company’s pioneering apprenticeship, which was developed and is being delivered to address the unprecedented demand for pipeline inspectors who are equipped with the knowledge and skills demanded by the market and the emerging green agenda.

Michael Michlovsky, Director at IACS Ltd, comments:

“The IGEM awards are well-established and highly respected. So, to see our organisation shortlisted within this category means a great deal to our business – not just our team who work tirelessly to support our programme, but our apprentices and apprenticeship partners too.”

About the apprenticeship…

The ‘Practitioner in Pipelines for Hydrogen and Utilities’ (PIPHU) programme, which is derived from the Level 3 Construction Support Technician apprenticeship, features the UK’s first Ofqual registered qualification in Hydrogen Safety. Employer-led, it has been created through an innovative partnership between industry, education and specialist skills providers.

Michael continues:

“PIPHU marks a significant investment for our business, and achieves what our founder, John Hewitt, was passionate about - developing highly skilled tradespeople who can confidently contribute to and have a long and fulfilling career with the evolving energy sector.”

An inclusive apprenticeship…

PIPHU has been developed to move beyond a programme based entirely on technical abilities, in addition to incorporating green skills it fosters diversity by actively recruiting apprentices from underrepresented communities.

James Baker, Operations Manager at IACS Ltd, adds:

“We are immensely proud of PIPHU, of what our apprentices are achieving and of the reputation that they are developing in the marketplace. We are looking forward to the finals and feel privileged that our programme is being recognised amongst so many exciting people initiatives that together support the future growth and ambition of our industry.”

About the awards…

The awards, coordinated by IGEM in partnership with the Energy & Utilities Alliance (EUA), have been recognising and rewarding the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations working in the gas sector for over 25 years.

The final, which is expected to attract more than 500 delegates from across the industry, will take place on 8th May at the InterContinental London Park Lane.
