Could dancing be the secret ingredient for promoting our wellbeing?
Now we know that the jive or tango may not be an obvious choice for some, especially when working in the pipeline industry, but it is according to our Director, Laura, whose love of Latin dancing has led her to a more positive mindset.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, team IACS is considering how we support our mental wellbeing, why it’s important, and what tips can be shared to help others who may be looking to take a ‘quick step’ in the right direction.
Here Laura tells us all about her love for dance and her dancing community.
Four years, and it never fails to make me smile. It all started when I took my daughter to dance, and I decided I’d give it a go too! I have even got Lisa, from our office, to come along and join us too.
I’m not a fan of the gym, and I’m a very social person, so this is perfect for me. I keep fit, enjoy the dancing community and there is absolutely no pressure.
Going to dance classes completely changes my mindset. I’m focused on the uplifting music, the rhythm, and my steps – there’s no room for anything other than positivity.
100% Latin, I love the Pasodoble.
Meeting Vincent Simone for sure! I joined him for a dance class and it was amazing to watch and learn.
Sometimes creating balance seems unattainable, but every little helps. Even if you have five minutes, it’s enough for a reset. A five-minute walk is a good place to start. Take yourself away from the desk and the phones, go for a walk or just find a peaceful spot – it helps get clarity of mind.
If you have more than five minutes, but dancing’s not for you, try finding the right exercise class – it could become the highlight of your week.
